It has been getting colder in the Lakes over the last week or so and today as I drove to work I noticed for the first time this Autumn, the snow covered tops of the fells around Grasmere. I really hope that this does not mean we will be in for a bad winter.
So today has been a day of catching up on office admin and emails, and all was going well until I became slightly distracted by the smells coming from the kitchen. John, our chef, was making an illy coffee and walnut cake. I don’t know about you but there is something about the smell of fresh ground coffee that makes me hungry every time! Then to top it all off John started to make an 8 (yes eight!) layer chocolate cake to be sold in the café too.
Well it was around this point that I decided I needed to investigate the kitchen and sample some of these goodies for myself. Obviously only as a research project to ensure that the cakes we are going to be serving our customers taste gorgeous. I am pleased to say that both cakes passed the test with flying colours!
I guess that I had better get back into the office and carry on where I left off, slightly fatter and definitely happier than before! It’s funny how cake can change your mood.
